ICE Commits $2 Billion to Polymarket in Landmark Blockchain Investment

The NYSE parent’s backing propels Polymarket to a $9 billion valuation, cementing prediction markets’ entry into mainstream finance.

ICE Makes Strategic Move Into Blockchain Prediction

Intercontinental Exchange (ICE), the operator of the New York Stock Exchange, has confirmed a $2 billion investment in Polymarket, valuing the blockchain-based prediction platform at $9 billion post-money. The move marks one of the largest institutional entries into the decentralised finance (DeFi) and prediction market space to date.

ICE Chairman and CEO Jeff Sprecher described the partnership as a natural progression in the company’s mission to expand data-driven financial innovation.

Expanding Market Data Reach

Under the agreement, ICE will begin distributing Polymarket’s data to thousands of financial institutions globally, leveraging its extensive exchange and clearing infrastructure. This step is expected to position prediction markets as credible financial instruments alongside traditional derivatives.

A Milestone for Polymarket

Polymarket founder and CEO Shayne Coplan hailed the deal as a major step toward integrating blockchain prediction platforms into regulated financial systems. He noted that the partnership “brings institutional scale and credibility to a rapidly growing consumer market.”

In July, Polymarket acquired QCEX, a CFTC-licensed exchange and clearing house, in a $112 million deal designed to facilitate compliant access for US users. The acquisition was widely seen as a strategic foundation for the company’s regulated expansion.

Bridging Traditional and Decentralised Finance

Founded in 2020, Polymarket enables users to trade event outcomes using blockchain technology. The company processed more than $6 billion in prediction volume during the first half of 2025 and recently entered a data-sharing agreement with X to extend market visibility.

ICE’s investment reflects a growing convergence between established financial systems and emerging decentralised infrastructures, setting the stage for wider institutional adoption.

Industry Implications

With this latest funding, Polymarket becomes one of the highest-valued entities in the DeFi prediction sector. Analysts say ICE’s involvement could legitimise prediction markets as a reliable data source for institutional investors, bridging the gap between retail speculation and professional forecasting.
