The Esports Integrity Commission (ESIC) has suspended Team SENZA following an ongoing investigation into potential breaches of integrity and betting regulations.
ESIC Opens Investigation Into Team SENZA
The Esports Integrity Commission (ESIC) has placed Russian-based Team SENZA under temporary suspension while investigating multiple alleged violations of its Anti-Corruption Code and Code of Conduct.
The move applies to all ESIC Member Events and tournaments that have adopted the ESIC Integrity Program, meaning SENZA is currently prohibited from participating in those competitions.
ESIC clarified that the interim ban does not represent a guilty verdict, but rather a procedural measure to maintain competitive integrity during the ongoing inquiry.
Allegations Under Review
The investigation focuses on several possible violations, including:
- Betting-related misconduct connected to matches involving the team
- Use of unauthorized external information during official competitions
- Account sharing and identity irregularities among players or staff
Team SENZA, formerly known under a different name before being acquired by SENZA Esports last year, competes primarily in Rocket League but has representation across multiple titles.
What Happens Next
ESIC has formally notified all rostered players, coaches, and staff members of their suspension. The team now has a window to submit documentation or statements to assist with the investigation.
While no fixed timeline has been provided, ESIC stated it will issue a public statement once the review concludes. Member tournaments are being asked to respect the suspension, though enforcement ultimately depends on individual organizers.
Betting and Integrity in Esports
Esports betting continues to experience explosive growth, particularly among younger demographics such as Gen Z. Experts, including industry figure Moritz Maurer, have pointed out that esports presents more frequent betting opportunities than traditional sports.
However, this rapid growth also heightens the need for stronger integrity safeguards, an area ESIC has been expanding through partnerships like its new collaboration with Betby, announced earlier this week.
Industry Impact
If the investigation confirms any rule violations, Team SENZA could face extended suspension, fines, or permanent bans from ESIC-sanctioned events. For now, the temporary measure underscores the esports sector’s broader struggle to maintain transparency and trust amid rising betting activity.
