UK Gambling Commission Seeks Public Input on Deposit Limit Transparency

The UK Gambling Commission has opened a new consultation to improve the way gambling deposit limits are defined and presented to players. Set to come into effect on October 31, 2025, the proposed changes aim to increase clarity and uniformity across the industry.

This initiative is part of a broader strategy to give players better oversight and control over their gambling activity. Operators would be required to make it simple for users to view and adjust their deposit limits after making their initial deposit, ensuring that the process is user-friendly and transparent.

A key goal of the proposed changes is to help players evaluate whether their current deposit settings are appropriate and make adjustments if needed.

Historically, deposit limits have been based on fixed time periods and capped amounts. However, the recent introduction of “net deposit limits”—which adjust based on withdrawals—has led to confusion. For instance, a player with a £20 weekly limit who withdraws £10 might find their limit raised to £30, potentially misleading users and complicating enforcement.

The current consultation builds on earlier discussions and invites feedback from the public, industry stakeholders, and gambling companies to shape how these financial controls are implemented moving forward.
